The Superintendent of Telegraphs reports from Adelaide thftt pomniunication on the Port Darwin lino was restored at 3 p.m., New Zealand time, to-day. # GRAHAMSTOWN. December 29. Great preparations are proceeding for the reception of S.r George Grey and Mr. Sheelian. A triumphal arch has been erected on the wharf, and the town is gaily decorated. They will address a public meeting at the theatre to-night. .—o AUCKLAND. December 28. Two men were arrested on a charge oi breaking into the Castle Hotel, and .stealing H7O. The City of New York, with the English mails, floated the health officer's flag on entering the harbor this af(-< rnoon. and for some time was not communicated with, until it was ascertained subsequently that there was no disease on board ; all being well. Her saloon passengers are Messrs. T. Gardner, J. 0. Campbell and wife, H. M. Baker, F. A. Barker, J. L. Chaplin, H. J. Case, jVlorris, Sears, C. j Bundali, 0. G. Hawden, Stephen, and Nassitt ; Mesdames Lele and M. Gothe ; and 15 in the steerage. The Wanaka leaves Auckland at 4 p m. to-day with the Southern portion of the j San Francisco mails. She goes via Napier I and the jEiist Coaut,

Mr. Bianey reports : —The flour market, is much depressed at LIS ; Adelaide, LIS ; only small trade lots are offering. Bran, 5s 5d ; pollard, 5s lOd; bags oatmeal, Ll9 ; oats. 3s 9d ; "pototoes (new), 40s ; cheese, 7d ; bacon hams (in cloth), 8-id ; maize, a cargo of Fiji realised 4s 9d. Mr. Bnckland reports : —Good steers, 30s to 37s per 1001 bs.. falling Is per lOOlbs. as the Side proceeded ; fat cows. 23s to 25s ; fat sheep, fair supply, dull at 21s to 22s ; fat lambs, numerous, Gs to 12s. DUNEDIN. December 28. Mr. Malcolm Murray Irvine, .'33 Degree, by dispensation fr»m the Supreme Council of Scotland, yesterday admitted Mr. Robert Paterson to the ~ame degree. The proposed initiation of Mr. Paterson to the degree has been the subject of much discussion among the fraternity, and a protest as to the legality of the proceedings has been sent Home, and to the members of the Rose Croix Degree, N.Z. Messrs. Paterson and Irvine assert that the Grand Orient is not a recognised body, while other Masons refused to recognise Messrs. Irvine and Paterson. LAWRENCE. D cember 2S. The floods in the Clutha River continue nnprecedentedly high, and last night there was a thunderstorm, with rain, which is likely to raise the river. The damage to property on the lower banks is very heavy.
