PROTEST AGAINST THE EDUCATION BILL

(I'ER I'RESS AGENCY.)

Welling i on, November 28. Two formal protests against the Education Bill were yesterday handed to the Speaker of the Legislative Council to be sent to his Excellency the Governor, through whom they are to be transmitted to the Home authoiities. The following members protest against the Bill because it fails to provide for any recognition of the Christian religion, or even of the Supreme Being:—Messrs. Kenny, liichmond, and Peter Miller. The other protest is signed by Messrs. Hall and Menzies, and objeots to the Bill for the same reasons as the other, but give as additional ground that the law is not only absolutely wrong, but is opposjd to the general wishes of the people of New Zealand.
