TELEGRAMS.
(FUOM Till'. I'nKSN AOKNCY.) AUCKLAND. November 12. It appears, from private telegrams received in town, that on Wednesday 1 st a large party of nativi-s drove a number of cattle from Parker's land on the south side of the Moanatuatua Swamp, and took them over the Ptitiui into the King Country. Apparently the act lias not been authorised by the chiefs of the Kmg Party, for a telegram received yesterday stated tiiat 170 cattle had been brougat back. It is believed the restitution was made by order of Rewi, but upon this point, and also as to what caused the natives to take such a course, the information is not reliable. The land from which the cattle were driven is not part of the confit'citccl territory, but. is laud purchased or leased from tie Government, and the only explanation that can be given of the affair is that soma party of natives mean to set up a claim to the laud on the ground that it has been improperly passed through the Court, and that some who claim to be owners have not been dealt with. Several charges of fraudulent bankruptcy were pref-rred at the Police. Court to-day against IT. S. Meyers. Only the first case was heard, his clerk Stitchbury being the chief witness, The defence was reserved for the Supreme Court, and hea»-y bail taken. T.ie other cases will be heard to-morrow. - * WESTPORT, November 12. It is rumoured that the Opposition intend to throw up the sponge, several of the party .being afraid of a dissolution. It was Major Atkinson's intention evidently to resist the imprest supply and Estimates. He cannot move a no-confi-dence motion on going into Committee of Supply, while the no-confilence motion is already on the. order paper; and he cannot withdraw the latter except by the unanimous consent of the House. He is, therefore, perfectly checkmated. The Treasury is running short, and the Audit Department is putting on the scr?w. Sixty Acts have been passed this session, but none of them is yet printed in passed form.
