; STALLIONS nnO STAND THIS SEASON JL IS THE OAMARU DISTRICT, AND AT ME. PATER SON'S PRIVATE RESIDENCE, OAMAIiU, The Fashionably-bred and very Superior Thoroughbred Horse P E It T O B E, Bred by H. Phillips, Esq., Victoria, in 1869. By Panic (imported) out of Hester Grazebrook, by the Premier (imported), out of Miss Napier, by Delapre (imported), out of Mrs. Roberts, by Wanderer (imported); Panic, by Alarm, out of Queen of Beauty, by Melbourne out of Birthday, by Pantaloon out of Honoria, by Camel, &c, &e. Peri tobk is a dark bay horse, 7 years old, standing 15 hands 3 inches high, with great length, substance, and quality, and was one of the fastest horses that ever raced in Victoria. The fact that he has got Pantaloon blood in his veins is a great recommendation, for it is questionable if better flows in any animal's; the very best runners and the grandest specimens of the thoroughbred are descended from Pantaloon, whose blood cannot be excelled. The value of Pantaloon blood is undeniable, having furnished so many proofs, not alone as to speed and staying, but also as a running strain, for although some others occasionally produce one or two first-class animals, still, few can compete with that in question as to number. For high breeding, good true racing action, honesty and gameness, with speed of remarkable brilliancy, Pebtobe has no equal, and Thoroughbred Mares put to him should breed good racehorses. j

A glance at the shortly-tabulated pedigree will show how the blood of the horses mentioned comes in— I a ].,.., \ Venison by Partisan ) ' ( Southdown by Defence Stockham's dam), by Pantaloon The Premier .Miss Napier I Tory Boy, by Tomboy, a son of Jerry, out of the Ardros■j sail Marc, dam of Beeswing, &o. ( Baroness, by Leopold (son of Camillas) ' Delapre, by Bolero, out of Peeress, by Defence Mrs .Roberts, by Wanderer. This horse was got by Wan•j ' derer (son of Gohanna), out of Ogress, by Oetavius, I her dam, Thalcstris, by Alexander (son of Kelipso). | Bred by Lord Egremont, in 1526, and imported I to Tasmania by Mr. Monty.

"Several more thoroughbred m-ea have been advertised, and, if placed according to intact, Panic certainly deserves the. premier position, for there can be no disputing that lie is the most useful of all the sires in Australia : and being so, the question arises, Is he not the most valuable ? He may not have produced such brilliant horses as some of our crack sires, but for the production of every description, he has no equal. Nimblefoot, Strop, Melbourne, Adelaide, and others, have placed many a good flat race to his credit; Prodigious, Lone Hand, Saucepan, Quicksilver; and many others, have shown us what his descendants are capable of over a country ; and for general purposes they are unsurpassed, as they mherit all their sire's soundness of wind and limb. Mr. Tait has often told me that the best constitutioned horse he ever owned was Melbourne ; and this being one of the chief characteristics of Panic's stock, he is well worthy of liberal patronage from breeders."'
