PARLIAMENT.
Wellington, Oct. 31. The debate on the want of confidence motion occupied the whole of the sitting of the House yesterday. The debate was resumed by Mr. Takamoana, who spoke in favour of the Government, and was followed by Captain Russell, who denied that Sir George Giey was placed in power by a majority in the House. Mr. Leader Wood made a powerful speech on the Government side, anil after dealing with the subject of Sir George Grey's accession to oiliee, handled Mr. Fox pretty roughly. He denied the statement that the figures brought forward by Sir George Grey were to be loinid on the Lte Treasurer's statement. Sir George Grey was the first man to come down and say that the sham of issuing Treasury Rills with the full knowledge that the Consolidated Fund could never rtdet-m them should cease. For years the Colony had been living by this system of Hying kites. He said that whatever might be the result of the present motion, there was no doubt that ultimately an appeal must be made to the people whichever side won by a small majority. Neither could carry on the business, and a dissolution must ensue. After the usual adjournment for dinner. Messrs. Bowen. Tawiti, and <;ibbs spoke in favour of the motion, and Me srs. Taiaroa, Jin ce, and Roes against it. Very little new master was introduced, though, Mr. Kees ; speech was a long and te ling one in many : oitits. Mir. l.arnach moved the adjournment of the debate.
