STALLIONS STAND THIS SEASON IN THE OAMARU DISTRICT, ASD AT MR. PATEBSON'S PRIVATE RESIDENCE, OAMAKU, The Fashionably-bred and very Superior Thoroughbred Horse P E K T 0 B E, Bred by H. Phillips, Esq., Victoria, m 1869. By Panic (imported) out of Hester Grazebrook, by the Prenrer (imported), out of Miss Napier, by Delapre (imported), out of Mrs. Boberts, by Wanderer (imported); Panic, by Alarm, out of Queen of Beauty, by Melbourne out of Birthday, by lantaloon out of Honoria, by Camel, &c, &c. PkrTuBK is a daik bay horse, 7 years ol<l, standing 15 bauds 3 inches high, with great length, substance, and quality, and was one of the fastest horses that ever raced in Victoria. The fact that lie has got Pantaloon blood in his veins is a great recommendation, for it is questionable if better Hows iu any animal's; the very best runners and the grandest specimens of the thoroughbred are descended irom Pantaloon, whese blood cannot be excelled. The value of P.mtaloon blood is undeniable, having furni-hed so many proofs, not al< ne as to speed and staying, but also as a running strain, for although some others occasionally produce one or two lirst-cla s animas, still, few can compete with that in question as to number. For high breeding, good true racing action, honesty and gam.-ness, with sin-ed or remarkable brilliancy, Pj-.rtobk no equal, and Thoroughbred Mares put to him should breed good racehorses. PERTOBE, by "Augur," writing in the Australasian of the 4th of August last, says ; " Several more thoroughbred "ires have been advertised, and, if placed according to mer.t. Panic certainly deserves the premier position, for there can be no disputing that he is the most useful of all the sires in Australia ; and being to, the question arises, Is he not the most valuable ? He may not have produced such brilliant horses as some of our crack sires, but for the production of every description, he bas no tq"al. N imblefoot. Strop, MeJbourne, Adelaide, and others, have plucecl many a good flat race to h.s credit; Prodigious, Lone Hand, Saucepan, Quicksilver, mil many others, have shown us what his descendants are capable of over a country ; and for genet al purposes they are unsurpassed, as they inherit all their sire's soundness of wind and limb. Mr. Tait has often told me that the best constitutioned horse he ever owned was Melbourne ; and this being one of the chief characteristics of Panic's stock, he is well worthy of liberal patronage from breeders."
