MURDER AT KUMARA.
(by telegraph, per press agexoy.) Kumar a, September 2(5. The police have arrested Thomas Ryan, formerly a police officer in Dunedin, on a charge of murdering Daniells, the miner whose body was found at Kumara a few days a«o. It is said the circumstantial evidence is very strong against Ryan, and that the police are in possession of a great deal of information which will probably come out at the inquest on Saturday. The prisoner is identical with the man who was acquitted, after two trials, in Dunedin, in April, 1873, charged with shooting at Farrell, the detective. The case is one likely to present remarkable surroundings. Daniells had built a hut on the new rush, Ryan purchasing the ground overhead. Daniells was supposed to have money. He was a witness in Ryan's case in Dunedin. Ryan was the first to tell the police of Daniells being missing, in March last. The skull of deceased was fearfully smashed, but the body was fully identified by his wife. Ryan has been engaged driving an express in Kumara for the last six months, and had rented Daniells' house to a tenant after deceased was missing.
