[By Telegkaph, from our own Cop.eeSPONDENT.]
W klltngton, September 25. It is definitely settled that Mr. Lnrnach will move a motion amounting to want-of-conlideuce on the n o:ion to go into Committee of Supply. The motion will express dissatisfaction with the action of tlie Government in reference to tlie Walca Maori libel action.
The rumour that a split had occurred in the Middle Party, consequent on the Hon. Colonel Whitmore dem*n ling the leadeiship in the Upper House, is contradicted on tl e verv besc au'hority. Coloi e' Whitmore is on the very best terms with the party, and only ye-terday, at a meeting of the leaders of the Middle l'arty, the question of establishing rel it ions with a party in the " Lords was brought up, the discussion being postponed until to-day. Mr. Roll- ston s now generally understood to lie the leader of the Middle Party in t;;e House. It is expected that tin Government wi.l suffer a defeat on the Native Land Sales Suspension J Sill, and they are lnlrd at work be.'ging for votes Mr. James Alackay, who has arrived from Auckland, says the feeling there both amo gst the Europeans and natives is very strong against the Bill.
