The Herald publishes the following "special" dated September 15: —-The Russians made a general assault upon the Turkish position at Plevna on Tuesday, the Czar's fete day. The storming columns attacked the northern and southern faces of the great Gravitza redoubt. Three divisions attempted to take the Turkish trenches, protecting Plevna, whilst General Skobeloif was operating against the redoubts, barring the entrance to Plevna by the Sophia road. The storming parties everywhere advanced gallantly, but, having no shelter, withered away under the deadly rifl s of the Turks. The survivors were compelled to retire. Reinforcements shared the same fate, meeting failure and disaster everywhere. Tiie Emperor returned to his head-quarters at Pored,in disappointed. During twilight the assault was renewed, and within an hour the Gravitza redoubt and three redoubts oil the Sophia road were in the possession of the Russians.
