OAMARU STONE QUARRYING AND EXPORT COMPANY.

The adjourned meeting of the promoters of this Company was held at Messrs. Julius and Balmer's Chambers yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock. There was a considerable attendance of gentlemen largely interested in the welfare of the borough, and his Worship the Mavor was called to the chair.

Mr. .). K. Bisnws' read the report of the Committee and also the evidence taken by them. (We much regret their great length prevents us publishing them in extenso. 'I hey are, however, b.ing published in pamphlet form). A letter was read from Mr. T. IT. Brown regretting his unavoi<lab!e absence, and submitting samples of stone from the Hon. 1!. Campbell's e-tate, which were regarded very favourably l>y the experts present. A long c nversational discussion followed, in which Messrs. Booth, LMdle, Munro, Hardy, Nuhipter, and others took part, all concurring in the extreme feasibility of the project if rightly gone about. Mr. Munro, of Mount Taipo quarry, exposed the hoax played upon Melbourne by a well-known contractor, who put the stone into leaky vessels, and had tin l audacity to allege that the damage done by salt water was owing to "salt water springs at the >.'ew Zealand quarries.'' Of the same kind was the very damaging report of Mr. Blair, C E., Duuedin ; and the exhaustive evidence of the Committee, it was hoped, would go far to remedy the mischief done to the reputation of the stone in so many ways. Mr. Hkowx stated that he would make it his business to obtain repoits from professional men and other experts on his anival in Melbourne with samples of stone from the various quairies, and would endeavour to get the stone employed in the erection of the Melbourne Exhibition Building about to be erected.

Mr. Ltddlk suggested the building of .1 sample building on some conspicuous site in Melbourne, by the Company. The following resolution was propos-d. by Mr. l'nccTKß and se< onded by Mr. J. Booth: —"That a company, to be called the Oamaiu Stone Quarrying and Export Co. (Limited), be for i el, with a nominal capital of 1.23,000, in 50 0 shares of L 5 each.'*—Carried unanimously. Mr. Hap.dv moved, and Mr. G. Munro seconded :—"'That the following gentlemen be appointed Provisional Directors His Worship the Mayor, the Hon. E. Campbell, Messrs. George Sumpter, Thorn us Procter, S. Gibbs, Joseph Booth, J. Li Idle, C. S. Allen, and C. Galbraith ; and that the following gentlemen be requested to act provisionally in Melbourne, viz : His Worship the Mayor, Alderman Aaron, John Andrews, E q , ML. A., Messrs. Samuel Ames, A. K. Smith, T. W. Mason, and T. Millar (Melbourne Kopeworks), with power to add to their number." —Carried unanimously.

The third and last resolution was proposed by Mr. Lipdle and seconded by Mr. SUMrter, as follows :—" That a moiety of the shares be reserved for the Australian market, and that the Company be considered floated,

and bo duly registered under the l.iu Liability Companies Act, in soon an halt number of shares are dispo«od of. Ap|> tion deposit to be ss. and allotment calls, 1(K, at intervals of not less than t niontl s."

A vote of thanks to his Wondnp Mayor who expressed the pleasing afforded him to see such a satisfactory n.i of their labours, and his perfect conthl in the undertaking, which would be of inense importance to O.unaru, for, after, that was what, per force, they had inn heart—was carried mm. con., and Mr. .1 Hrown appointed. Secretary pro trm, v the meeting adjourned.
