In the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, Mr. Rees, on the House meeting, desired, as a matter of privilege, to move for a Committee to inquire whether Mr. Kennedy had forfeited his seat by reason of being a contractor under the Government, but, at the suggestion of the Sppaker, gave notice of it for to-day. The Dnnedin Athenaeum and Museum Management and Endowment Bill was introduced by Mr. Stout. The Hon. Mr. Whitaker said that, in consenting to itsinti-oduction, the Government did not pledge themselves to approve of the Bill in any way. In Committee on the Education Bill, _ A division took place after long discussion on the question whether the Committee or Minister should collect the capitation tax. The latter was carried by 43 to 30. An amendment moved to strike snt the clause altogether was then carried ay 38 to 31. Clauses 80, 81, 82, and 83 were also struck out. Clause 84 was passed.
On clause 85 an amendment was moved to omit the word "history." The word was retained by 54 to 6.
