(PER ARAWATA, AT TIIIS BLUFF.) Mblbouunk, September 12. The Land Tax Bill has passed the Assembly, and been sent to tlie Council, where it was read a first time without criticism. T;e Government d.olined to permit any alterations in Committee, and the measure was pushed very hurriedly through. An attempt was made to make mortgagees bear a portion of the tax, but it was not listened to.
The Mining on Private Property Bill has passed through Committee in the Assembly and so:ne progress lias been made with t!ie Estimates. in dealing wit.'i t!io new taxes, the duties on gunny-hags and sugar-mats was struck onr, and tliosj on corn-sacks ami woolpacks passed.
T.ie rainfall has liad a most beneficial effiot. It lias been very gen ral in New South Wales, but not suilieieiit yet in Victoria ; but already the inlhieiioe is fell in hus.m s<.
