The Evening Mail. SATURDAY, AUGUST 18, 1877.

A football match without a casualty now-a-days would be a curiosity. To-day we have to record an accident to Air. Alfred Hardy, by which his collar-bone was dislocated. We understand that it might have be?n worse, and, of course, this will be comforting to the sufferer during the moments of pain to which he may be subjected until recovery.

It is stated that a well-known boniface

has received a pressing invitation to appear before the Eesident Magistrate's Court on a charge of having permitted billiards to be played in his licensed house after midnight.

Sub-Inspector Smith has received information that James Little, charged with having obtained goods by means of false pretences from Messrs. Galbraith and Co., has been arrested in Christchurch.

Captain Pallan*-, who met with a rather serious accident at Hokianga, particulars of which have already been published in our columns, is now in Oamaru, having arrived by the Waitaki; and although he has not yet recovered from the effects of the accident, we understand that he is progressing as favourably as can be be expected.

That incorrigible drunkard James Kelly made his how once more before the Bench at the Ke.ident Magistrate's Court this morning, and was ordered by G. Sumpter, Esq., J.P., to pay a fine of L2 or go to gaol for six day?, with hard labour. Kelly elected to "take it out."

The Chicago Minstrels are advertised to appear to-night, at the Masonic Hall, in one of their variety entertainments. It is some time since the public were afforded an opportunity of being present at a performance of this class, and, seeing that the company includes the names of vocalists who have made their mark in New Zealand, there should be a full attendance at the entertainments announced.
