SUPPOSED WRECK. THE UNEMPLOYED. FALLING OFF OF RAILWAY RECEIPTS. August 4. A quantity of wreckage on the bead] near the North Cape, consisting of case marked " Mission," having drifted ashore leads to fears for the safety of the schoonci Waiwera and Ebonezer, bound for Norfol Island with stores for the Mission. At a meeting of clergymen of all di nominations, held to consider the Educi tion Bill, the meeting readily approve of the Bill, and adopted a petition i favour of the religious clause, as intri duced.
Arrived—Roderick Dhu, from Oaman August 6. The meeting of the unemployed wi largely attended, and resolutions we passed urging an appea l to the Goven ment, through the Mayor, to open tl railway works on the second section the Kaipara line or the Auckland Statu by day labour, or, if contracted for, prohibit the contractors from sub-lettii the work—a system which led to gre evils. Also, asking the city and harboi authorities to push on their works. The schooner Jessie Henderson, fo merly in the Duiudiu trade, was lost Kamsay Island, South Seas, on the 14 July. The ship was 12 miles from lan and was going eight knots in a stoac breeze, when she struck a reef not mark on the chart. Every device to get li off was tried without effect. The wat came in rapidly from a hole forward, ai the vessel suddenly settled down abu an hour after striking. The captain ai crew had barely time to get over the si into boats. The chronometer was t only thing saved, the men not ev getting their boots. The boats pulled the island, and the crow afterwards reach Levuka, where an enquiry was held whi acquitted Captain Urquhart of all blarr The vessel was insured for 1500 in t New Zealand Company's Oflice.
