(per -wakatipi; at Wellington.) Sydney, July 26. A number of spurious bank notes are in circulation in Sydney. A proposal is before the Assembly to make the honorarium L3OO per annum. Melbourne, July 28. Anew loan -will probably be proposed by the Government for defences and for railway purposes. Owing to the ill-health of Sir Redmond Barry, lie will not return to the colony till the full period of his leave expires. Spark has been scratched for the Melbourne Cup. The Commissioners for the Paris Exhibition report that there is not time to hold a preliminary exhibition, but they call attention to the desirability of holding an Intercolonial Exhibition in Melbourne. Sales of wheat, 7s 5d to 7s GM ; flour, selling freely at Lls 15s ; large sales of Devoe's oil have been made at 15s sd.
