There was a clean sheet at the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning. A summoned meeting of the Court Pride of Oamaru will be held at S o'clock on Monday evening, at the Oddfellows' Hall.
Mr. A. H. MaudS continued his sale of the stock-in-trade of Mr. J. Moss during this afternoon, and will resume operations again this evening.
jj. On Monday, at noon, Messrs. Connell and Clowes will sell by public antion, the stockin- '2-ade of \Jr. Thomas Shalders, who is retiring from business. The sale will be held in the premises, Thames-street.
By an advertisement in our columns this evening it will be seen that the annual general meeting of the First Oamaru Permanent Building Society will be held at the Society's office, Thames-street, on the 14th instant. As an indication of the prosperous condition of the Society, its income from various sources during July, the first month of the second year of its existence,amounted to £IGSI 6s. A meeting of the gentlemen favourablejjto the formation of a Coursing Club in tins district took place this afternoon at the Empire Hotel. There were present—Messrs. A. Paterson (in the chair), Wheatley, 8.0-nayne, nayne, Swanson, Honour, (Greenfield, Thomson, Lockwood, Shalders, J. Dooley, Mason, Campbell, and Amos. After a desultory conversation, during which it was stated that steps had already been taken by Messrs Brydone, Hay, and others, to form a Coursing Club, it was resolved to adjourn the meeting until further notice. A large number of the prizes to be awarded at the next show of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association are on exhibition at Mr. M'Co'.kindale's shop. They consist of beautiful silver articles, both useful and ornamental, and any single one of them is well worth a struggle to obtain. The total cost of these in'izes, we are informed, was £2i.O, and it speaks volumes in favour of the energy displayed by the members of the Committee that the Association should be able to give prizes of such value, in addition to hundreds of others of lesser value. The articles now on view were purchased from Messrs. Young, of Dunedin, and Mr. A. M'Corkimlale, of this town, and are well worth inspecting. At the next meeting of the Committee, which will be held next week, it will be decided to what class of exhibits those elegant piizes shall bo allotted. A meeting of the Otepopo Athcnteum Committee was held on Wednesday evening. Present : Messrs. Henderson (President), Beckingsale (Treasurer), Dichl, Pollock, Koss, Johnston, Byley, and Pirie (Secretary). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and adopted. The President was authorised to procure two brackets for six lamps each, cost not to exceed £5. A letter was read from Mr. Ovendcn, Secretary to the A. 0. F. Lodge, enquiring if the oiiicer in charge of the Athena; um was allowed to make any charge beyond that for the hall. The Clerk was instructed to acquaint him that if any person or persons requbed his services after 10 p.m. they were entitled to pay for them—the Committee declining to put any restraint upon him as to charges. The Secretary was instructed to acquaint Mr. Breading that his contract would not be passed until a proper hearth be made, and the letters of the word " Atlieiueum " on the front of the building be blackened. A letter from the Secretary of the lodge of Good Templars was read, requesting that the hall should not be let to anyone after their ordinary meetings. It was agreed that the request be complied with. Mr. Breading's account was ordered to stand over until the contract was finished. Messrs. Henderson and Stanton were appointed audbors. Messrs. Henderson, Beckingsale, and Pirie were appointed to draw up a report for the annual meeting on Wednesday, 22nd instant. The Secretary was directed to call the next meeting for Friday, the 17th inst. A vote of thanks to the President brought the meeting to a close.
