WELLINGTON.
MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE. August 1. The conference of Municipality representatives met to-day, and appointed bis Worship the Mayor of Christchurcli chairman. In his opening address the Chairman expressed his regret at the want of finality in the Government measures required by the abolition of the provinces, and said these constant changes would soon make the people regret the passing of the Abolition Act. The Conference meets again to-morrow morning. Twenty thousand shares in the new Union Fire and Marine Insurance Com. pany have been applied for in Wellington.
