OTEPO O ROAD BOARD.
A meeting "i" the Otepopu R<>ad Board was held yesterday. J'lvsent—Messrs. Anderson (Chairman), Henderson (Treasurer), Marshall, 2\ewlanus, jioss, Watson, Falconer, and Darroeh. Mr. Newlan"[).s proposed, and Mr. Darrocii seconded, "That t!:e minutes of last meeting be adopted a.s r.';!.i.'' Messrs. and Gemim.-it appi-ared as a deputation from the Kakan-.i Road Board rn the deviation of the i i; ,i.!me Main District road to Maheno Ibuiway Station. —After hearing their statement the Board decided to give its answer after next meeting. A letter was read from the Mail Office asking a share of the advertising. On the motion of Mr. F.vr.oNr.r., seconded by Mr. Henderson, it was agreed tiiat the Mail should receive the half.
Mr. L. G. Fenwiek wrote stating that 2~> chains of fencing had by mistake been erected at sections o± and ob, block A 1i.., and asking the Board's sanction to a deviation of the road.—Messrs. Henderson and Darroch were appointed to report on the matter at next meeting. A petition from the ratepayers in Maheno was received, asking that W hick-ham-street should be formed. —Messrs. Falconer and Newlands agreed to report on it at next meeting. Another memorial from Maheno ratepayers was read, asking that certain streets fenced in by Mrs. Balfour should be opened.—The Clerk was instructed to acquaint them that no permission to close them had been given. Mrs. Balfour wrote, explaining that the sections on both sides of the street were iters, and tiiat it was done to save fencing, the streets not being required.—The Clerk was instructed to acquaint her that the Board cotdd give her no protection. A letter was received from the General Government rr the late election, intimating that obji ctors eonld take action under sections 4S to £0 of the Regulation of Local Elections Act, 187 G. On the motion of Mr. Henderson, seconded by Mr. Falconer, the Clerk was instructed to invite tenders from the banks for the Board's account. The Clerk was instructed to inform Gilchrist and Co. that the Board means to enforce the penalty for delay in finishing their contracts. Messrs. Anderson and Henderson were re-elected Chairman and Treasurer respectively for another year. Some accounts were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
