There arc 35,01)0 Russians south of the Balkans. There is great excitement in Constantinople, where the Russian approach is deemed probable. A rising in Greece is expected to acquire Epirus, Macedonia, and Tiiessally as Greek provinces. The Turks having withdrawn from Montenegro, and the Montenegrins are resuming the offensive. Cabinet, presided over by the Sultan, has decided should the Russians take Adrianople and advance against the capita], to unfurl the Prophet's Standard. This has caused general consternation. Some British troops are being sent ostensibly to Malta, but it, is rumoured that their destination is Galiipolis.
