The Minister of Education has stated that Government measures which the country has endorsed would be submitted to the Council quietly, reasonably, and fairly, so as to give no excuse for their rejection. The Cliurch Assembly has opened. The Bishop in his address said that two-thirds of the population were church-goers. The Oathediai Fund amounts to about L 12,000 in promises. Commander Colebrooke Mandeville has been appointed to the command of the Oerebus, vice Panter. Lieut.-Col. St. Hill, formerly A.D.C. to General Cameron has arrived as Private Secretary to Governor Weld. Dr. Sonnnerville's lectures are attended by large crowds. Recently, over 2000 p rsons, in one night, were unable to obtain admission. The revenue of the Colony for the past year was L 4,514,121, s unving an increase of L183,9b"2 on the previous year. Sir W. Jervoise has been seriously indisposed, but is now recovering. The Government are arranging for a Jape route service. They have re-opened negotiations with Messrs. Green and Co., of the Blackball line. Oats, are very firm. Extreme rates obtained.
