Singapore, July 10, 12.30 a.m. The news of the Russian defeat at Bilia is not continued. According to Russian despatches, their forces occupied Bilia on the sth July. A Turkish despatch states that Mukhtar Pasl.a has effected a restoration of c-'iusiiunicatioii with Kars. Bombay, July 10, 12.15 p.m. Russian unofficial despatches assert that the Russians' retreat in Armenia was caused by having underrated the strength •>f the Turkish forces by which they were likely to be opposed, and that the Russian columns were quite inadequate to the contemplated operations. With regard to the crossing of the Danube by the Russians, it is believed that Abdul Kerim, Turkish Commander-in-Chief, is occupy--ing a defensive position.
