MECHANIC'S INSTITUTE.

WYNDHAM HE,SERVE. i A letter from the Education Board wa read declining toexchiingelandas proposed owing to their not seeing any way ii which the matter could be arranged satis factorily. EXCHANGE OF BOOKS. A letter was read from a member of tin Institute offering to give certain booki for others in the library. It was resolved " That the offer be not entertained." LECTURE. It was decided that the lecture kindly offered by J. Bathgate, Esq., on "Scottish Poets," be delivered on the 29th instant. LIBRARIAN. The Secretary was instructed to insert advertisements in the daily papers, calling for applications for the oflice of librarian, to attend the Institute daily between the hours of 9.30 and 10.30 a.m., 3.30 and 5.30 p.m., and 7.30 and 10 p.m., at a salary of LSO per annum and percentages on the revenue of the Institute, applications to be in by the sth July.—While on this subject some of the members referred to the letter, written by the librarian, which appeared in the North Otago Times, and the communications on the subject of librarian which were published in tho Waitangi Tribune. The idea of any member of the Committee making statements so devoid of truth as were alleged to have been made in the latter correspondence Was scouted, and it was resolved that no notice should be taken of the statements. WYNDHAM RESERVE. Draft conditions of lease were submitted to the meeting, and the Secretary was instructed to forward copies to tho secretaries of the Milton and Invercargill Institutes, and insert advertisements in the Bruce Herald, Otago Witness, and the chief Invercargill paper, calling for tenders at per acre for seven years lease of land. CONVERSATION AND SMOKING ROOM. It was decided to open the backroom of the Institute for a conversation, chess, draft, and smoking room. Several members of the Committee promised donations in the way of furniture, &c., for it. t
