THE RUSSIANS REPEATEDLY DEFEATED. London, June 10. Grand Prix de Paris—St. Christophe, 1 ; Young Lear 2 ; Strachino, 3. June 11. The Berlin papers consider the disolving of the French Chamber would imply the triumph of the Ultramontanes, and involve a general conflagration of Europe. The Czar is at Bucharest. Thy Russian right wing is falling back on Pennek. The Turks from Batoum are operating in the Circassian Provinces. Lord Salisbury, at the Merchant Tailors' Banquet, insisted on the necessity of maintaining European peace. He was ready to defend England's interests, if attacked. Lord Derby concurred, adding that the maintenance of peace was of the greatest importance to British interests. Official despatches state that the attempted passage of the Danube at Nikopolis was repulsed. The Russian Press repels with indignation the idea that Russia will be satisfied with peace without solid guarantees. The Turks are successful in Montenegro. The Prussians are massing troops opposite Rutschuk and Nikopolis. The Turkish Chamber has authorised a forced loan of five millions.
