INJUSTICE TO A WORKING MAN.

I'ish J THE EDITOR OF THE EVEXING IIAIX. k t—Having occasion to sus for wages !"ly in the R.M. Court, Waimate, isli to inform you of the justice *l out to me at that place. When c:ise was called, some objection, was kI by the defendant's solicitor to the ;raphy of my accounts. In spite of assertion that lie could read them if ; hose, and an appeal to the R. M., case was adjourned for a fortnight, usiness required my presence at i«u, but at the loss of a day's work expanses, I again cool my heels oufcfc'ie Courthouse at Waimate, hoping -ase will soon be called ; for having en*l a solicitor, I felt sure of success. Sme my surprise, when, at 12 o'clock,

I the Court adjourned for other business, I and it was announced that defended cases j were postponed for a fortnight. Rather : than run the risk of getting justice at Waimate, I, with advice, and taking into I consideration certain circumstances, ae- , cepted an offer from a solicitor, thinking myself lucky to get anything. So you see, sir, after losing a week at Waimate, two weeks elapse before the Court sits again, and then another fortnight would intervene before the case could, or might, be heard. This—even with a hearing at that time—would make a loss of Jive weeks before a man could get justice. There must be something rotten somewhere. Either the R-M. has too much to do, or he is unfit for his position.—l am, &c, H. Oamaru, June 1, 1877. I
