J A telegram was read from the Under 1 Secretary, stating that his Excellency tlio I Governor had continued the bye-laws | made by the Corporation under the Com- | mon Lodging-house Ordinances. | Y AllE-STREET. | Mr. Daniel Ruddock wrote, asking tho | Council to have a track cut to .allow vehi- | cles to proceed with coals, tfce., to the upper end of Yarc-street. The writer also offered to perform the work for £'2">. It was resulted that Mi*. Ruddock's letter should be received, but that his offer to do the work should he declined. PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE. The following report from this Committee was read and adopt i d : " With reference to the letter received from Mrs. Edwards, your Committee would suggest that she be informed that as there is no drain in the street, the best way for abating the nuisance complained of would be to either sink a well on her section, or to put a drain under the footpath to the water channel in Eden-street. lie Ah Chee's application to lease part of Reserve D, your Committee l'ecommend that the matter remain in abeyance until the gaol question is settled." GAS COMMITTEE. A report from this Committee was also read, dealing almost entirely with matters of detail. The Committee recommended that, in consequence of the very satisfactory manner in which he performed his duties, Mr. Gledhill's salary should be. raised I.os. per week.— The report was adopted, j EXE.STREET. On the motion of Councillor Galbkaith, the plans submitted by the Engineer, giving the permanent levels of Exe-street, were adopted. ACCOUNTS. A number of accounts were passed for payment, and the Council then adjourned.
