ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENT.

[Wc r.-ish it to bo most distinctly understood that are not responsiolc for the opinions expressed by correspondents.] MOERAKI RAILWAY TIME-TABL TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING MAIL Sir, —Can you inform mo why the ni ningof the railway trains is arranged soi conveniently for settlers ? The first tra leaves Moeraki at 5 minutes past 9 a.n and arrives in Oamaru at 10.30. Now, the return train from Oamaru starts at p.m., travellers who arc necessitated return the same evening are frequent compelled to leave their business u finished. This is a matter which meann loss to settlers that they arw unable bear. lam sure that if the time fixed f the departure of the last train fro Oamaru was made an hour or oo later, t settlers would patronise the railway mo liberally than they do now, and goi would result to all. Some may advan the objection that it would interfere wi the coaching arrangements, but the inco venience in that respect would be sim compared with that we now suffer, one case some hundreds of travellers a concerned; in the other, but a tithe that number.—l am, &c, SETTIiEU, [We would recommend our oorrespoi dent to write a letter to the llailwi department, which is over anxious to pr mote the convenience of settlers. It is I the interest of the department to do at inasmuch as it means augmented revenw We are not aware of the reasons for fixin the present time-table, but we suppoi that they are good, and if our correspoi dent adopts the course we suggest, we ca promise that he will be at least treate with the greatest courtesy. If the lette were signed by a number of the settler who feel the present Moeraki Railwa; arrangements to be inconvenient, it woul perhaps be better.—Ed. E. M.)
