VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
Yesterday afternoon the unarmed division of the Grammar School Cadets was put through its usual exercise by their drill instructor. The efficient manner in which the various movements were carried out reflects great credit on the boys, who are not only improving in their performance of military evolutions, but are already acquiring the carriage and demeanour sl> sightly and conducive to health. In the evening the Citizen Cadets mustered in strong force for their ordinary drill under their commander Captain M'Corkindale. After drill the Company was handed over to Drill-Instructor M'Pherson, who put the Company through a variety of movements, all of which- were on the double, and the different evolutions were performed with admirable precision. The Head-quarter Companies will be inspected to-morrow night, when it is anticipated that they will present a most respectable appearance. War and rumours of war should have a stimulating effect upon our Volunteers. It is desirable that they should maintain efficiency for purposes of intimidation if for nothing else.
