RATS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING MAIL. Sir,— Having heard a great many complaints from different people in Oamaru wno are very much annoyed by rats, and have failed to rid themselves of the same by the trap or poison. I venture to suggest the following which I have tried a number of times, and alwaj-s found the l'«j;-;.:«jc ul.;n_r. and no mistake :—Take a i>i..'co of oh! si'itiTiiv, and cut it inttf pitc-js *.'■■ -■ <■>. sin-.; of a pigeon's egg : fry the : '.-j in some dripping, put ...!-.' . fo.i-L '.-at of reach, and strew the .; :.h. j\n rile places the rats frequent. i'n.-y will <-,%' this greedily ; the sponge rapid!v absorbs the moisture in tne j stomach and swells—a few.
