MARINE DISASTER.

Westport, May 25.

A heavy gale is raging here. A mishap occurred to the steamer Maori last night. While weighing anchor in the roadstead, a heavy sea striking her, caused a sudden jerk, carrying away the steam-winch, and completely smashing it. The anchor and 30 fathoms of chain cable snapped, but the first has been buoyed for picking up when the gale abates.
