Hallenstein Bros., manufacturers and wholesale warehousemen, of the New Zealand Clothing Factory, following the example of of the large manufacturers at Home, and more especially Avith a view of preventing the importation of English clothing, are opening extensive retail establishments in the large centres of population. For this purpose they have lately fitted up commodious premises in Messrs. Shrimski and Moss' buildings, Thames-street, where the sale of their manufactures will be thrown open direct to the public of Oamaru. This branch, which will be opened on .Saturday April 7, will be under the immediate manage ment of Mr. E. 0. Lindsay, and under the personal supervision of Mr. B. Hallenstein, the head of the New Zealand firm. Messrs. Hallenstein Bros., umlcr the management of Air. Anderson, started the New Zealand Clothing Factory about three years ago. They commenced on a comparatively small scale, but at present they employ between 300 and 400 people. They had to overcome many difficulties, and much prejudice, and especially the persistent opposition on the part of the larger houses, glutting this market with imported goods, and no doubt the retailers found it to their advantage to push these in preference to local manufactures. The proprietors of the New Zealand Clothing Factory have therefore judiciously decided to introduce their manufactures direct to the large consuming population of New Zealand, and in order to do so effectually, they have determined to sell a single garment at the wholesale price. The selling price is to be marked in plain figures on every article, from which no abatement will be made. The business is to be conducted strictly on the cash principle, and all goods must be_ paid for on delivery, but any article not found suitable may "bo exchanged, or the money leturned. As will be seen from the garments exhibited, the public will now be able to choose from the largest stock of men's, youths', and boys' clothing, superior in style and quality, anil at a proportionately 1 >wer price to anything that can be imported.
