Wellington, May 15, THE WHARF.
The Wharf Committee of the Corporation had a long and animated discussior this afternoon, as to the acceptance of & tender for the construction of increased wharf accommodation. Since last meeting, the lowest contractors for No. 1 and No. 2 contracts had come to an understanding with each other, and notified to the Committee that they were willing to co-operate, and put in their offers as one tender. This was opposed by several councillors, as being unfair to the other contractors, who tendered under the impression that the lowest tender, or aggregate for Nos. 1 and 2, would be accepted ; and they maintained that the communication of Messrs. Coffee and Good fellow should not be entertained. On the other hand, a majority of councillors were of opinion that the Council should save L 544 by accepting the conjoined tenders of Messrs. Coffee and Goodfollow, if they were satisfied as t j their ability to do tho work, and their sureties. It was moved that M'Kirdy's tender, lowest in aggregato of any one tender, be accepted, but ultimately the Committee broke up without any decision being come to. A special meeting of councillors is to be called for, and formal notice given for rescinding tho resolution passed at the last meeting, which prevented the Corporation accepting divided tenders unless they could savo LIOOO. All tenders received by post this afternoon were too high. TELEGRAPH ARRANGEMENTS.
