AN INCIDENT OF ST. VALENTINE'S DAY.
In Stirling, an incident, probably uir.qne in thu i.isiory of Si. Valchiine's Day, occurred. Some local wags procured one of the valentines wincii summon the recipient to attend at the '• Court of Uymeii," &c., and persuaded a goodhumored policeman to deliver it to Lac ikin CauiLron. a Highland bumpkin, employed in the Royal Hotel stabks. On receiving the document, Cameron manifested lively perturbation, and asked if he really must attend the Court. The policeman gravely assured him that he must do so, and walked oil", gulping down a very unofficial gui'i'aw. Cameron shortly afterwards proceeded to the police oflice, a.id presented his ''summons" to the other in charge, asking him what he was to do. The oaicer was at first inclined lau,h in his face, but somtt.ing about man's features seemed to strike him as familiar, so h:* des'rtd Cameion to wait a few minutes while ho inquired into t:e matter. A little searc.i among official documents d ; sclosed the fact taat Cameron was " wanted" on a charge of passing a bad half-sovereign at Baiinockburn some *-ime previous. The officer accordingly requested Cameron J :o step " ben t=e ijoose," and in a trice had the silly fellow locked U|J in a ceil.
