Our New Zealand Industries —Messrs. Hallenstein Bros., manufacturer.-* and wholesale warehousemen, of the New Zealand Clothing Factory, following the example of s..me of the Luge manufacturers at Home, and more especially with a view of preventing the importation of English clothing, are opening extensive, retail establishments in the large centres of population. For this ]>urpose they have lately fitted up commodious premises in Messrs. Shrimski and Moss' buildings, Thames-street, where the sale of their manufactures will be thrown open direct to the public of Oamarn. This branch, which will be opened on Saturday, April 7, will lie under the immediate management of Mr. R. C. Lindsay, and under the personal supervision of Mr. B. Hallenstein, the head of the New Zealand firm. Messrs. Hallenstein Bros., under the management of Mr. Anderson, started the New Zealand Clothing Factory about three years ago. They commenced on a comparatively small scale, but at present they employ between 300 and 400 people. They had to overcome many difficulties, and much prejudice, and especially the persistent opposition on the part of the larger houses, glutting this market with imported goods, and no doubt the retailers found it to their advantage to push these in preference to local manufactures. The proprietors of the New Zealand Clothing Factory have therefore judiciously decided to introduce their manufactures direct to the large consuming population of New Zealand, and in order to do so effectually, they have determined to sell a single garment at the wholesale price. The selling price is to be marked in plain figures on every article, fr.im which no abatement will be made. The business is to be conducted strictly on the cash principle, and all goods must be paid for on delivery, but any article not found suitab'e may be exchanged, or the money returned. As will be seen from the garments exhibited, the 2>ublie will now be able to choose from the largest stock of men's, youths', and boys' clothing, superior in style and cpiality, and at a proportionately 1 >wer pr.ee to anything that c.iU be imported. 13ur, irrespective of all these advantages, it is to the interest of everyone to support an industry which employs New Zealand labor, and is a direct benefit to the butcher, baker, farmer, mechatrc, shop,'; coper, merchant, and to everyone in the community.—[Ai>vr.]
