THE LIGHTEST JOCKEY ON RECORD.

In answer to a question, "What was the weight of the lightest jockey whoever rode a race i" the editor of the FUM says: "The lightest jockey we ever heard of was Kitchener, atul as the lowest weight at which he rode is a frequent subject of discussion, we will give the particulars somewhat fully. It is thought by many persons that Kitchener's lowest weight was whett he won the Chester Cup on Red Deer, in 18-H. Such. however, is not the fact. Ort that occasion his bodily wei -'lit was 2st. t2ib.. and trie saddle, bridle, &■£., weighing Ist. 2tb., made up the weight to 'lit., at which the floras was handicapped. Rut Kitchener had ridden at Ascot under the nickname of 'Tiny,' fottr years previously, and his bodily weight- then was only 2sII. 111b., so that Ist. lltb. dead weight was then required to bring hint op to 3st. 12 : &>., at which he rode. The race was the Wokingliiiiiu Stakos. run on Friday. Jittin 0, 18 ; UX atul f.!W horse w»sC«>!onel Wtodham's c' esl nut lilty by Xona-iMe out of Shrimp. As this occurred more than a dosten \'e;irs before the Fif-hF. came into ♦-xi»te«ic»», we cannot quote any report of the race from our own pages, but we find, the following remarks in the Jipwliuy Sfttjnziiur of July, 1842 * Captain iWcher afforded some amttsvment by entering from his establishment tittle* Tinr, who rejoiced in going to scale at 2st. Tib., with a saddle. He is a good-humoured hut, and bore the yokel's'grins very stoically. It was like perching en hig;t cne of the large dolls seen in the toyshops in Holborn, save that here there was life; he. however, rode wets, and bids fair to walk up the sleeve of some of the big una.' And Bell's Life of June 2lst, 18-10, contained the following on the same subject :—' The most amusing feature in the race (Wokingham Stakes) was the first appearance of a mite from Captain Becher's stable, who rejoices in the cognomen of Tiny, and justifies it by being able to go to scale at 2-st. Tib., with a Gib. saddle. He rode the Nonsense titty, and although the miprceidentedly low weight of Sat. 121b., instead of a feather wa* put on her, she actually carried nearly 2st. dead weight! This beats Little Let! and Johnny Hewlett into fits.'"
