' 1 have/ said the astounded guest; '[ am Edwin Adams, Hut actor.'" * That's too- thin, you know," ■aid the clerk p * 1 knew poor Ned Adams, but he is dead." * Dead T shouted the actor. * Ves. dead/ was the Tepfy; * died in Australia, poor fellow, lis weeks ago.' *Oh !' you are mistaken/ w«» tne rejoinder ; f am 3fe«t Adams, and I don't feel particularly dead/ 'Now, look here,' said the cleric, * this is enough of this. Here's the papers reporting poor Ned's death, ancl here* the obituary in the* €tos and the M<i<« r and here's the notices' 1 cut out of the "New York papers/ Mr. Adams was taken aback. Then the absurdity of the situation burst upon him, and hj« fcegan to faugh. Then he asked if Bob) Witharn. an old friend of hb. was at the hotel ' No, he ai./t/ was the surly reply j * but here comes Billy Florence, and he: fcnovvs Ned Attains.' Mr. Adams rushed up' to- thw member from CJ'ohosh, sodi grasped him warmly by the hand. Florence gatfud in ainaztement for a minute or two, but as soon as Adams spoke he knew his peculiar voice, and exclaiming. * Good Heavens,, Ned, b that you/ plied. niir* with a thousand and one questions. * Ifa only another case of Enoch Arden,' said Adam;*, * except tfiat I took my wife along with me.' U was the first Mr. Adams knew of his reported death \, but Florence's identification reassured tiie hotel clerk, and the genial actor was soon comfortably installed in his room, reading numerous obituary notices."
