The Secretary Oamaru bcuools Committee. Dear Sir, For the information of the Committee, I have to report that the fee collection for the quarter just ended amounts to LlB6 16s. lid. The percentage of absentees is thus shown to be somewnat high, but this is fully accounted for by the irregular attendance of many of the little ones. Sir, —I beg to lay before you the following report, for quarter ending March 31. The number, of pupils in attendance was 203 ; the boys numbering 111, and the girls 92. Bicknell, requesting that free" education might be granted to the son of' Mrs. Bam field, who had been deserted by lier husband. On the motion of Mr. Sumpter, seconded by Mr. Evans, the matter was referred to the Visiting Committee, with power to act. 'i.\;e Chairman stated that he had been requested to bring under the notice of the Coimnitt e the case of Mrs. Wray, who wished, to have free education granted to her son. Her husband had been ill for some time, and she had to maintain the family by her own labour. T. is application was also referred to the Visiting Committee, with power to act. auditor. On the motion of Mr. Fleming, seconded by Mr. Clowes, Mr. Evans was appointed Auditor for the present year. THIRD MASTER FOR GRAMMAR SCHOOL. The Rector (Mr. Thornton) reported that in accordance with the resolution of the Committee, lie had had interviews with Messrs. Bradley Bennett and Yates, and he thought that Mr. Bennett would be the most suitable man. It was decided tnat Sir. Bradley Bennett be appointed third master, to enter upon his duties as early as possible. FOURTH MASTER. The Rector also reported that he had h d an interview with. Mr. Fraser, who had be n selected l y th; Committe subject to his approval. He thought that, although Mr. Fraser was well qualified for the post, he was far too young, more especially as it was proposed to place the fourth master in charge of the side school. On the motion of Mr. Fleming, seconded by Mr. Lipdell, it was decided that the appointment be not confirmed. After some discussion it was resolved, on tie motion of Mr. Sumptbr, seconded by Mr. Evans, " That Mr. Fidler be appointed, subject to the approval of the Rector. REPAIRS TO OLD SCHOOL. Several accounts having been passed, the nuf.-t'ng terminated with the usual vote of thanks to the Chairman.
