FIRE AT PORT CHALMERS.
A fire broke out in a painter's shop, occupied by Thomson and Ross, Port Chalmers, on Saturday evening, which soon spread to the adjoining premises. Although the buildings situated in the block were wooden houses, the local brigade, with a copious supply of wafer, succeeded in preventing the flames from extending to any great length. Thomson and Ross estimate their loss at £SOO, and are insured in the Korwicli for £2lO on the stock, and £IOO on the furniture. The building was uninsured. Dale's, stationer, losses amount to about £SOO. He is insured in the Victoria for £BOO, and in the South British for £2OO.
