THE MASONIC HALL.

THE DARR-LLS TN " THE LADY OF LYONS." We were rather disappointed in not seea packed lownstair-house at the Masonic Hall last night, instead of only a fair one. The performance really deserved more than a moderate house, for it was an excellent one. There were none of the defects visible in it that there were in that of " Romeo and Juliet " on the previous evening, this drama not being so dependent upon scenic and mechanical effects as the former. Besides this, in no other drama do both Mr. and Mrs. Darrell appear to such advantage as in that of " The Lady of Lyons." In it they have achieved their greatest successes in New Zealand, and we hope that before their season is concluded, they will arrange for its repro 3 duction, in order to allow of those who did not witness the performance of last night to do so on another occasion. Mrs. Darrell, as Pauline, appeared to great advantage, and seemed r ° have entirely recovered from her voyage. Her. acting was natural and charming throughout; and during the venous scenes in which the stronger passiois of nature are painted—such as her disc>very of the deception that had been playf-l U P°" her by Claud ; and in the fifth ac, where she has resolved to sacrifice hei* e " ft> r the sake of her father -the full of her dramatic talents were brou'ht out, and kept the audience in a state 9* breathle°°j
