THE RAILWAY OPENING.

Lawrence, Mirch 3.

Notwithstanding the resolution passed at tlie public meeting that the Town Council should be asked to give £SO towards the railway demonstration, the mu, nicipal body at a special meeting yesterday positively declined to give one penny. Mr. Bastings and other good men on the demonstration committee can do without assistance from the Council, and will carry it out independently. It is reported that the Mayor has all through thrown cold water on the movement, and that the ac-r tion of the Council is the result of jealousy, because the matter did not emanate originally with them instead of the Times and the people.
