THE STEREOPTICAN SHOW.
An optician named Twiggs, living up in Newton city, was engaged to come down a few nights ago to give a magic lantern exhibition to the children of one of our Sunday-schools. The exhibition did not give much satisfaction to- the older people in the audience, because of the Somewhat peculiar character of the subjects in Twigg's collection. And so, vvh n tl : e show was over, two or three of the deacons took Twiggs into- the back rooi*» toset. le with hint, and Deacon Davis said : *' Mr. Twiggs, considered from a scientific point of view, your magic lantern show was, perhaps, a success : but don t it strike you thai; the class oi, picture exhibited by you is just a litr-te bit inappropriate for Sunday-school purposes f' " I durvno," said Twiggs. " f picked 'em out carefully, on purpose to suit the children." "The fact of the matter is, Mr. Twiggs, that the whole collection* i* wanting in good taste. That picture of the murder of Dr. rarknian! the view of Ltreretia Borgia poisoning her husband with arsentcated bologna sausage ; the painting of a griaatey bear chasing a man into a tree the representation of Mr. Too'lies in a condition of intoxication shaking with a pump ; the portrait of lirigham Young sitting with two- of his wives on his knees, while he kissed a third, and winked at the rest;; the view of trie- defendant and plain tiff i n the Johnson divorce case, with Mrs. Johnson throwing a sad iron at Mr. Johnson, and the picture of Dr. Bond relieving a patient with his new patent double-acting stomach pump—all these are open to eriticis;::. And while we pay you your money according to-contract, we express the conviction that we sliall not need yottr services again, and that if you could »>pen up a new career of usefulness for yourself in some other iino of business you might achieve more for the civilisation of the race." 'Ehen Twiggs packed up-and went home-. When we have another magic-lantern exhibition the Deacons will examine the pictures beforehand.
