BAKER AND FARRON IN "LISA ECCLES."

" Lisa Eccles," the second original drama of Messrs. Baker and Farron, was produced to a good house at the Masonic Hall last night. The plot of the piece is briefly as follows : —Heinrich Eccles, speaking broken English, arrives in New York in search of the child of his sister, who had been ruined by Robert Folga, and had died, leaving a little girl. Arriving without money, he was fortunate in finding some German friends, and through their influence, obtained a situation as assistant detective. He becomes acquainted with Mr., Mrs., and Laura Appleby, the former of whom is a rich banker, whose bank had been robbed. The Dutch detective finds a clue in the shape of a sleeve-link of peculiar construction, and tSiis turns out to be the prop arty of itobert Folga. Laura Appleby is engaged to Edgar Vernon, but has fallen in love with her, deter ..'ins to have her hand " by fair means or by 7i,oT.\i> Sirs. Appleby had bedi married to Folga's brother, and had a son by him, who had been stolen whilst a child. Folga, to forward his suit with Laura Appleby, pretends that her mother's first husband is still alive, and passes off a companion of his own as her son. He then threatens Mrs. Anpleby with exposure unless she induces Laura to give him her hand. Tais she indignantly refuses, but Laura, who has overheard all, sells her hand to Folga, as the price of his silence. Folga presses Laura to name the wedding day, but Laura refuses, and the scoundrel is just about to denounce Mr. Appleby to her husband as the wife of another man when Heinrich Eccles arrives with other detectives, and exposes Folga and his companion as the perpetrators of the bank robbs~y, and as being imposters. Mutual explanations ensue, and Laura Appleby turns out to be the daughter of Lisa Eccles and by Edgar Vernon marrying Laura, and everyone else beinp; extremely happy. The principal songs and dances are introduced into the piece by Messrs. Baker and Farron, as Heinrich Eccles and Hetty Stoefel, the latter of whom has very little to do with the working out of the drama, being only introduced as the sweetheart of tlie former. Mr. Farron also takes the ' character of Michael Flagherty, in which he sings the amusing song " Muldoon, the Solid Man." The performances of Messrs. Baker and Farron throughout were greeted with roars of laughter, and the various songs and dances were received with shouts of applause. Altogether a more enjoyable night could not have been spent, and everyone went home thoroughly satisfied. To-night the Baker and Farron company appear for the last time, the piece chosen for the occasion being "The Governor," another new piece to the people of Oamaru. We pan cordially recommend-any whq have not seen these talented performers not to miss the opportunity of seeing "The Governor."
