THE BOA CONSTRICTOR SLUMBERER.

The writer of " Here, There, and Everywhere," in the Grey River Argus has the following with regard to Sir Joolus:—"The greed for office of the present Agent-General was only exceeded by his gastronomical proclivities, as to which a good story can be told. Some years ago, during the Parliamentary Session when Sir Julius was in Opposition, an attempt was made by his party, by refusing to speak, to cause an important debate to lapse, when it was expected that it would continue for at least another day. There was a ball at Government House, and two or three evening parties in town> and many of the Government supporters were absent, and it became necessary for some one to keep the talk going until they could be sent for. This was early in the evening sitting, and Julius was enjoying a sound nap upon the sofa in Bellamy's, and one of the Government whips began a terrible personal onslaught upon him, accusing him of being a mere political adventurer, and so on. Of course, his remarks led to frequent interruptions and calls to order —Ihe very thing wanted —and one of the members went to fetch Julius in, and had some difficulty in waking him, and, what with his semi-somnolent condition and his deafness, he got a very exaggerated idea of what the whip had been saying of him, and when he rose to speak to a point of order, he began to deny certain statements which had never been made. When he was told by the whip that nothing of the kind had been uttered, Julius explained that he had been informed that they had, whereupon the whip said, "If the honorable member would keep in his place, instead of indulging in boa-constrictor slumbers in Bellamy's, it would be the better for him." And a very irreverent laugh ran through the House, but the whip gained his point, for by this time the Government supporters were all present. , i
