OAMARU HARBOR BOARD.

Th 3 uv.ial fortnig itly meeting of the members of the Board took place yesterday afternoon. Mr. George Sumpter occupied the chair, and the following members were also present : -Mtssrs. Headland, Steward, Gilchrist, Meek, and S'.riinski.

After the minutes of previous meeting had Le.n passed, the following report from the Standing Committee was read:— "Your Committee report that r.t a meeting held on the 22.id January, s.veval matters of detail were consider-d, and it was resolved—' That the Secretary be instructed to write to the Commissioner of Customs re establishing a pilot rate for the port; also, re the payment to th e Board of the fees collected for pilotage exemption licenses. " That the charge for carriage of ballast be 9.1. per ton ;- no berthage to be charg.d on ships discharging ballast.

Mr. Headland moved, .and Mr. Steward seconded, that the report be adopted, but Mr. Shrhnski objected, an.l uiov. d an am.ndment —"That the i\ port be adopted, exc.pt t .at portion having i\f ivr.ca to pitching in qu-.stlon." The am■•ndinent, however, conld not find a seconder, and t'.ie original motion was aimed almost unanimously.

On the motion of Mr. Shrimski, seconded by Mr. Steward, the Engineer w:\frequested to make the deposit of two pei cent, on the t.nders.

On the motion of Mr. Steward, seconded by Mr. Headland, it was resolved —"T.at the Engineer bo instructul to call for tenders for the works, as per plans submitted, and also to prepare plans and call for alternative- tenders for No. 3 Wharf (with and without reclamation), t .e Board not to be bound to accept the lowest or any tender. Tenders for t:e whole to be in by the lGih March, at noon."
