CRICKET.
A match was played this afternoon be tween an Eleven of the Oamaru Cricket Club and the Tradesmen's Cricket Club. Owing to the unpunctuality of the Oamaru Club men in arriving on the ground, considerable delay was caused, the game not commencing till past 3 o'clock. Consielerable discussion then arose as to who were qualified to play on the Oamaru side, it being finally suggested by Mr. Sumpter (captain), and agreed to, that everyone who had not played against Timaru should be eligible. The Oamaru Cricket Club, having won the toss, elected to go in, sending Edwards and Holds worth to the wickets, Holdsworth made a few singles, Edwards making twos and threes rapidly ; but Holdsworth, after making 2, succumbed to Smith's bowling—one for 21. Sumpter now joined Edwards, and made a good 2 to the on, and then a neat slip for 1; Edwards iaterspersing the play with more of his doubles and trebles, finally being caught by Tunney off Dray's bowling, having made 17, thus leaving the game two wickets down for 29. The following are the scores up to the time of our going to press : OA.MAKU CRICKET CLUB —FIRST INNINGS. Edwards, c Tunny b Dray ... 17 Holdsworth b Smith ... ... 2 Sumpter, not out Honour, b Smith ... ... 1 "Walls b Smith 1 Tempest, hit wicket ... - ... 0 Balmer b Smith ... ... ...
