The very best runners and the grainiest specimen* of the thoroughbred are descended from Pantaloon, whose blood cannot be excelled. The value of Pantaloon blood is undeniable, having furnished so many proofs not alone as to sj-eed and staying, but aloo a* a running strain, for although -lotne others occasionally produce one or two first-class animals, still few can compete with that in question as to number.
