MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
The adjourned special meeting of tie Council, called for the purpose of consdering the application of the Messrs. Meet and Hay and Barr, of having Severn; street brought under the provisions .of tte Tramway Act, with the view of having * line laid to their premises, was held thii morning, at eleven o'clock. His Worship the Mayor occupied the chair, and then were present: Councillors Headlas Booth, Morton, Mainland, Scott, Cat braith, and Grave. Messrs. Barr and Mesk were in attendance, with the plan of & proposed operations; Mr. Balmer, soft citor to the Corporation, and Mr. M'lM the Engineer, being also present.—® Engineer stated that the plan would not, in any way, interfere with tin Garden Reserve ; and he was of opinion that if the concession asked for were to 1* granted, the plan proposed was the bf that could be shown.—A long discussioj cropped up with regard to the number# turn-tables, and the ultimate arrangemeii as to remuneration to be received by tbj present applicants when the Coun® should think fit to take possession of ft® tramways. As the question was o« which would necessarily open up a length discussion, the whole matter was aga® adjourned until eight this evening.
THE CONVENTION. j His Worship intimated to the Covin® that in his official capacity as Mayor® the town he had received an in vita tJ® from Mr. Macandrew to attend the C# vention called for Wednesday next. ® also stated that he had received a sim# invitation as a member of the late ly vincial Council. To the latter he intends to reply that as the Provincial Council now defunct, he considered himself ajjr longer a member of a body which had ? existence, and consequently would reft*! to attend the Convention as a Province Councillor. It was well known that f had contested and lost a seat in the 3j^ lature on Abolition principles, and as M views on the subject had undergone j* change since then, should the Council cide to be represented it would be n#*' sary to select some one other thacgffl^
