REVISITING ROBINSON HAUNTS.
A correspondent of the London BSjj. Standard, on board the British ship lenger, writes as follows from Valparaiso, —lt was late in the evening when chored in Cumberland Bay, in twenty-ij, fathoms—a pleasant secluded spot, sjj precipitous cliffs all around us, and a goo, beach for landing, and roads leading the settlement. Time would not permit, longer stay than two days here, and was made the most of. All the places iq mortalized by Selkirk were visited-ft caves, his "valley," his •'outlook,"fc This gap is some two thousand feet aboi the level of the sea, and from it a gloriot view was obtained, both north and sontl Robinson used to daily visit it and weaii watch the coming sail. Here £ Majesty's ship Topaz, in 1868, placed tablet, bearing the following inscription —" To the memory of Alexander Selkul a native of Largs, in the County of Rf, in Scotland, who was on this island j complete solitude four years and foj months. He was landed from the Cinqj Ports, galley, 96 ton 3, 10 guns, a.d. 17()| and was taken off in the Duke, privates February 12, a. d. 1709. He died Lie* tenant of the Weymouth, a.d. 1723, age 47. This tablet is erected near Selkirk' Look-out by Commodore Powell at officers of Her Majesty's Topaz, a.i 1868."
