There is a re-ported discovery of nickel silver near Mount Lofty, South Australia. Myriads of grasshoppers are reported as appearing on the plains at Deniliquin, N.S.W.
The Mecca has left Cooktown for Hong Kong with 220 Chinese and 4,0000z. of gold. A Queensland farmer has been fined £IOO, or six months' imprisonment, for having an illicit still. The schooner Peerless arrived at the Clarence River, N.S.W., and reports passing five wrecks on the way up.
At Adelaide a verdict of manslaughter has been returned against John Harmann, charged with murdering his mother-in-law.
Several nuggets, weighing from one to ten ounces of gold, have been found at Sandy Creek, Northern Territory. An old woman named Tape, about sixty years of age, was burnt to death at Sydney while smoking in her bed.
