THE WAITAKI RACES.

Duntroon, 3 p.m. There was a splendid attendance, the day glorious, and the running excellent. The grand.stand was well patronised, and the booths seemed to do a roaring business. The train brought up 200 persons, and arrived in good time. There were upwards of 600 present during the day. The following are the results of the three first events : Maiden Plate, of 20 sovs. ; open to all district horses that have never won money; l£ miles ; weight for age. Entry. £l. „ M. Thomas'b m Satanella ... 0 All the acceptors started. . Taipo took the lead, and kept it to the finish. Glencoe bolted, and was out of the race. Publicans' Purse, of 25 sovs. ; open to all district horses ; miles ; weight for age. Entry, £l. „ W. Swanson's g g Blue Peter ... 1 ~ L. Grant's ch g Comet 2 „ "VV. M'Anly's b g Nuina 3 Mr. J. C. Hill's b g Unknown ... s „ W. Swanson's ch g Sir "William ... s „ L. Graat's ch g Exile s Only three faced the starter, the missing horses being Unknown, Exile, and Sir William. Waitaki Cup, a Handicap of 100 sovs., with a sweep of 2 sovs. each ; the sweep to go to the second horse ; distance, two miles ; nomination, £2 2s. ; acceptance, £2 2s. ; open to all horses. „ J. C. Swanson's ch g Sir William ... 0 „ W. Swanson's g g Blue Peter ... s „ A. Bell's b g Wild Rose 0 All came to the post but Exile and Blue Peter. Unknown cut out the running, and won easily. Exile was disqualified for all his engagements at the meeting, as the North Otago Turf Club had not removed the disqualification under which it had been placed.
