MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

THIS DAY. [Before T. W. Pakker, Esq., R.M.] DBtTNK. Patrick M'Cusker was charged with being drunk in Tees-street. Patrick had conducted himself in a very disorderly manner, and when asked what he had to say for himself, he informed the Bench that he had been very badly took with the bile, and had imbibed too much P.B. and laudanum. As the arresting constable was not present, Pat was remanded till to-morrow. AKOXHEE. Alex. M'Kenzie was charged with worshipping too devoutly at the shrine of Bacchus. Alec declared that this was his first offence, and it should never, never occur again. He believed the charge was correct. • The Bench thought the best thing Alec could do, would be to leave Oamaru, and to carry out that object they would give him another chance. The accused left the dock rejoicing.

CIVIL CASES. Akxold v. Days ajs t d Duffield —Claim, £2 Bs., for work done. Defendants applied that the case should be heard at Hampden. The Bench agreed to this course, and adjourned the hearing for a fortnight. J. R. Clement v. Zachabtah Patterson—Claim, £2, for professional services. The plaintiff stated that the defendant brought a case to him, and he (plaintiff) undertook to defend him. He told Patterson he should only charge him £1; but as he became scurrilous and abusive, he sent in a claim for the full costs. The crossexamination on both sides was very amusing, the defendant getting decidedly the best of it. The Bench gave judgment for £1 Is., and 9s. costs. Esther Jane Ross v. John Still.— Claim £lO, for money lent. Mr. O'Meagher appeared for the plaintiff. The defendant did not appear. Judgment for plaintiff for amount claimed and costs. W. H. Dansey v. W. Fricker. — Claim £lO 10s. Judgment for plaintiff by default. W. Foss v. W. Hunt.—Claim £l3 18s. White v. B. Thatcher. Claim £8 Bs. Judgment by default.
